Distribution & Broking Recruitment

Strong relationships, sustainable growth.

Distribution decides where insurance growth comes from. With the right people leading agency, bancassurance and broking teams, agency forces scale with discipline, bank partnerships deliver steady new business, and corporate clients renew because their programmes keep pace with them. For leadership, that means growth that stands up to regulatory review and partnerships that stay commercially sound year after year.

As a specialist Distribution & Broking recruitment agency across Hong Kong & Mainland China, we recruit agency, bancassurance, broking and production, channel, employee benefits and financial advisory professionals for global insurers, global banks, brokers and multinational corporations.

Distribution & Broking for brokers, insurers and MGAs

Each of our consultants specialises in one area of insurance recruitment rather than working across every market. In Distribution & Broking, that means keeping our market knowledge current every day. We track how digital distribution platforms and AI-assisted sales tools are reshaping teams, how new roles like digital distribution managers and premium financing specialists are defined, and how pay is moving. Every brief then starts from shared understanding and up-to-date market intelligence.

For appointments such as Head of Distribution or Chief Distribution Officer, our service extends into executive search. At that level, leadership and influence across partners, boards and regulators matter as much as a sales track record.

The strongest distribution hires add value beyond their job description, so we look at the whole picture. Channel expertise is the foundation, whether that’s agency development, bank partnership management, broker relationships or employee benefits placement. Alongside it, we look for three qualities your clients and partners rely on:

  • Conduct: a record of growing business in a way that stands up to compliance review and treats customers fairly.
  • Relationships: partner, client and team relationships that have been built over time and hold through change.
  • Commercial judgement: a clear sense of which business is worth writing, and at what cost.

Every candidate is screened by a consultant who knows the distribution market. They look beyond job titles and licences to how the candidate has built, retained and grown business.

We recruit across insurance distribution, from first-line production to channel leadership:

  • Agency: agency development managers, agency recruitment and training leads, and heads of agency who build productive, well-supervised agent forces.
  • Bancassurance: bank partnership managers, specialist sales leads and bancassurance heads who keep insurer and bank partners commercially aligned.
  • Broking & Production: account executives, producers and senior brokers across commercial, specialty and personal lines.
  • Channel: partnership distribution and channel managers across broker, independent adviser, digital and affinity channels.
  • Employee Benefits: account managers, consultants and business development leads across group medical, group life and retirement schemes.
  • Financial Adviser: financial advisers and advisory team leaders within insurer and bank wealth channels.

If you’re an insurer or bank building distribution in-house, our conversations cover channel mix and team structure as well as individual skills. We also look at how a new hire will work alongside existing partners. We’ll help you decide which roles to make permanent, where contract support adds value, for example when launching a partnership or covering a leadership gap, and how to sequence hires so production keeps moving.

If you’re a broker or benefits consultancy, we keep the search client-focused. Candidates need to be ready to represent you from day one, hold the licences your clients expect and fit how your team wins and services business.

For every hiring model, we plan around licensing and appointment requirements so start dates reflect when a hire can carry out regulated activities. In Mainland China, we also take account of the rules on bancassurance fees and expenses when partnership roles are shaped.

We offer permanent, contract and executive search hiring. See our permanent recruitment and contract hiring pages for more detail.

We support organisations where distribution shapes growth, client relationships and regulatory standing:

  • Insurtech: digital and insurtech units within global insurers, building direct and partnership channels.
  • Re-insurance: global reinsurers developing client and broker relationships across the region.
  • Brokers: global broking houses serving corporate and specialty clients.
  • Banking: global banks running bancassurance and wealth advisory channels with insurer partners.
  • Professional Services: broking and employee benefits consultancies advising corporate clients.
  • FMCG & Consumer Goods: multinational corporations’ in-house insurance, risk and benefits teams.

Distribution hiring turns on detail that sits behind a job title: the channel someone has grown, the quality of business they’ve written, the partners who trust them and how they’ve led teams through regulatory change. Our consultants explore each of these before a candidate reaches your interview stage. That way your conversations can focus on fit and ambition.

We share current salary insight, realistic availability and a clear view of how similar profiles are moving across Hong Kong & Mainland China, so you can plan with confidence. Our network of 900,000+ candidates includes distribution professionals who aren’t actively looking or visible on job boards. We work across permanent, contract and executive search hiring.

Licensing and qualifications follow the channel, the product and the entity a hire will represent. In Hong Kong, the right licence and appointment come first for any regulated role, CII qualifications carry weight in broking and employee benefits, and Mainland China follows its own licensing rules.

Our consultants go beyond the qualification list to what candidates have done with it: supervising an agency team, steering a bank partnership through a product change or restructuring a corporate benefits programme at renewal. On tools, we explore hands-on experience with CRM and agent management platforms, digital onboarding and AI-assisted sales tools. Platforms change. Sound judgement on suitability and fair customer outcomes is built through distribution experience, and that is where our assessment starts.

Distribution pay rises steeply at leadership level, where responsibility for a channel, a partnership portfolio or a regional book sits with one person. Pay in Mainland China follows a similar shape to Hong Kong, at its own levels. The figures below are monthly base salary only. Incentive and commission structures sit on top and vary by channel, so it’s worth looking at the total package when you plan. As a guide, monthly base salaries are:

  • Account Executive / Broking Associate: HK$22,000 - HK$32,000 in Hong Kong; ¥9,000 - ¥16,000 in Mainland China.
  • Manager / Senior Broker: HK$32,000 - HK$55,000; ¥16,000 - ¥28,000.
  • Assistant Director / Account Director: HK$55,000 - HK$80,000; ¥25,000 - ¥42,000.
  • Director / Head of Distribution: HK$80,000 - HK$125,000; ¥40,000 - ¥65,000.
  • Managing Director / Practice Leader: HK$125,000 - HK$180,000; ¥60,000 - ¥100,000.
  • Chief Distribution / Partnership Officer: HK$180,000 - HK$300,000+; ¥100,000 - ¥180,000+.

If you’re hiring on a contract basis, we can share how rates compare with these figures. For tailored benchmarking by role, channel and seniority, visit our benchmarking page.

AI is moving closer to the customer. Insurers in Hong Kong are giving agents AI-assisted tools for new business, and the industry regulator has launched a cohort programme with leading insurers to support adoption. It is also consulting with insurers and intermediaries on a framework for how AI should be used. Readiness still varies widely, with larger insurers implementing while others are still weighing their options.

For distribution hiring, that puts a premium on leaders who can bring AI into the sales process without losing sight of suitability and fair treatment of customers. They train agents and advisers to use new tools well, explain how AI-supported recommendations are reached and keep customer data handling in line with Hong Kong’s Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance. When you’re interviewing, asking how a candidate has introduced a new sales tool to their team, and how they checked the outcomes, can tell you a lot.

Mainland Chinese customers have been a significant part of Hong Kong’s new life business. They accounted for just under three in ten dollars of new individual premiums in 2024, the latest year with published figures, as the regulator reviews how it collects data on non-local policyholders.

For distribution teams, cross-border demand shapes the skills that matter: advisory experience with Mainland clients, the language skills to build those relationships and a firm grasp of conduct standards for non-local business. Our consultants explore how candidates have served Mainland customers and how they’ve kept that business compliant, so you can weigh cross-border experience alongside channel expertise.
